“Would You Like A Fresh Cup Of Bitterness?”

Bitterness. There’s nothing tasty about it. I heard someone say once that harboring bitterness is like drinking poison and waiting for the other person to die. It’s true! Bitterness has a way of luring us in, ultimately making us the victim.

When someone offends us and we nurse a grudge, it grows into this hideous creature that will eat away at the heart like a cancer. There’s nothing more miserable than that. But God has given us power to overcome this monster within, the power of LOVE and FORGIVENESS.

There are many meanings of the word love, but only “Perfect Love” has the ability to overcome bitterness. Perfect love is not a feeling, but rather involves choosing to bring a Christ-like expression to the offender.

By nature, we would not choose to do this. That is what makes that first step difficult, however, there is nothing more powerful than choosing to love, by action, those that have hurt you. And with every expression made, it becomes easier. With sincerity and consistency, you will watch God melt the bitterness from your heart like warm butter. It cleanses and refreshes you and in the process you will find the forgiveness so needed to move on from the pain.

I encourage you today to love with perfect love. The love that only comes from our Heavenly Father. It’s a choice to regain the life that has been smothered out of you, to start over anew. I promise with each decision you make, it will get easier and you will find yourself puzzled, amazed at the transformation taking place inside you. It’s absolutely incredible and so worth it! Below is a portion of the love chapter in I Corinthians, however, I encourage you read it in it’s entirety. I Corinthians 13:1-10

I Corinthians 13:5,7,8

5. Love is not conceited and does not act unbecomingly, Love does not insist on its own rights or its own way, for it is not self-seeking; it is not touchy or fretful or resentful; it takes no account of the evil done to it (it pays no attention to a suffered wrong).
7. Love bears up under anything and everything that comes, is ever ready to believe the best of every person, its hopes are fadeless under all circumstances, and it endures everything without weakening.
8. Love never fails.
